KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 20 — A Malaysian tourist who drowned at a popular swimming spot in the far north of Queensland state in Australia last Sunday (November 17), has been identified as Ng Ji Wang from Sarawak.

In a statement today, the Foreign Ministry said they received confirmation in this from the High Commission of Malaysia in Canberra.

Ng, 29, was visiting his brother who is currently residing in Queensland when the tragedy struck.

He was swimming with friends at a popular swimming hole at the Malanda Falls when he got into difficulties and disappeared below the surface at around 3.30pm (Australian Eastern Standard Time) on Sunday .

The statement added that swift-water rescue teams were called in and Ng’s body was found an hour later. Ng was pronounced dead at the scene after paramedics failed to revive him.

It added that the High Commission of Malaysia had contacted Ng’s brother to render the necessary assistance to the family. — Bernama
