MELBOURNE, Nov 18 — A Malaysian tourist drowned at a popular swimming spot in far north Queensland, yesterday.

The 29-year-old was swimming with friends at the Malanda Falls when he encountered difficulties and disappeared below the surface around 3.30pm (AEST) yesterday, Queensland Police said.

Swift-water rescue teams were called in and the tourist’s body was found an hour later.

Paramedics tried to revive him but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are withholding details until the next of kin was informed. — Bernama
