GEORGE TOWN, Nov 18 — The large number of civil servants in the country should not become an issue because what is important is how to enhance the delivery system and the efficiency of public service.
Public Service Department (PSD) director-general Tan Sri Mohamad Zabidi Zainal said the efficiency, service and innovation of civil servants should be a priority in efforts to transform the public service in line with changes and developments.
“We do not talk in terms of quantity, but our products that can bring success to the country. If we talk in terms of sheer numbers but not the products, then the achievements are not evident,” he told reporters after opening the National Public Sector Innovation Seminar 2013, here today.
He was responding to a suggestion from some quarters that the number of civil servants be reduced to improve the efficiency of the public service.
Mohamad Zabidi said he would always ensure that each civil servant improve their service from time to time to enable the sector keep pace with the developed nation status by 2020. — Bernama
