BENTONG, Nov 13 — Two houses in Taman Meranti near here were robbed by four masked men armed with a machete and two iron rods early today.

According to Bentong OCPD Supt Mohamad Mansor Mohd Nor, in the first incident about 4am, four suspects entered a house occupied by a woman aged 41, her 11-year-old son and her 60-year-old mother.

“All the victims were fast asleep when the suspects entered the house by cutting the iron grille and prying the door open.

“The suspects then bound all the victims by using curtain strings before ransacking the house and fleeing with jewellery, cash, two iPads and a mobile phone all amounting to an estimated loss of RM30,000,” he told reporters here, today.

The suspects then entered the victim’s neighbour’s house through the kitchen after cutting the iron grille and bound the owners, a married couple in their 40s, who operate a cell phone shop, their two daughters, aged nine and seven and the victim’s sister-in-law, 35, before fleeing with RM15,000.

Meanwhile, in KEMAMAN, police said they were looking for a group of men who robbed a convenience store armed with a machete and a butcher’s knife here also early today.

In the 3.45am incident, a 22-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman at the counter were approached by three masked men believed to be in their 20s.

“The suspects pointed the machete and knife directly at the victim’s neck before demanding for the day’s collection, which was more than RM2,000, and several cigarette boxes to be put inside a rucksack they had brought with them,” said Kemaman OCPD, Supt Che Suza Che Hitam.

He said the robbers also took a cash register and a mobile phone from the store before fleeing in a vehicle believed to be a Honda CRV. — Bernama
