KUALA TERENGGANU, Oct 27 — About 700 Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) personnel in Terengganu have been put on alert in anticipation of floods during the monsoon season.

Terengganu Fire and Rescue Department communications officer Rozizah Abni Hajar said the personnel would be deployed in 15 stations throughout the state as a precautionary measure in the eventuality of flood.

She said the department was also getting ready 50 boats for the purpose.

“Apart from that, five lorries are also to be deployed to facilitate the evacuation of flood victims,” she said when contacted by Bernama here today.

Meanwhile, the state government has set up 118 forward bases throughout the state to store food supplies and basic necessities at strategic places so that victims in disaster areas can receive aid quickly.

Three of forward bases are located in Kuala Terengganu, Kemaman (17), Dungun (11), Besut (23), Hulu Terenggnau (33), Marang (16) and Setiu (15).

The Drainage and Irrigation Department has identified 198 flood prone areas in the state with 30 in Besut, Setiu (21), Kuala Terengganu (17), Marang (27), Hulu Terengganu (29), Dungun (32) and Kemaman (42).
