BUKIT MERTAJAM, Oct 25 — Three students from a secondary school in Seberang Jaya, near here, today pleaded guilty to causing hurt to a schoolmate in a bullying incident on March 4, this year.
The trio, aged 15, who had just completed sitting for their Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) examination, made the plea after the charge was read out to them in chambers before Magistrate Norzafirah Mohamed Ali.
They were charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34, with voluntarily causing hurt to the schoolmate on March 4 at 2.25pm.
The offence carries a jail term of up to one year or a fine not exceeding RM2,000, or both.
On April 11, police arrested the three students at their homes around Seberang Jaya at about 11pm following a report lodged on the incident, to facilitate the investigation.
A video clip running for one minute and 32 seconds which was uploaded to YouTube, showing a teenager in school uniform being beaten up in a room by a group of teenagers, believed to his schoolmates, caused public shock and outrage.
Magistrate Nurzafirah fixed bail at RM1,500 each in one surety on each of three teenagers pending sentence on November 28.
