ALOR STAR, Oct 25 — The Sungai Limau state seat by-election results is expected to be known at 10 pm the earliest on November 4.
“If both the contesting parties comply with the rules, arrive on time at the Sekolah Menengah Agama Yan counting centre on time and don’t disrupt the process, there’ll be no problem with announcing the results early,” Election Commission (EC) secretary Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh told Bernama after a live Radio Nasional FM interview here today.
Abdul Ghani said the ballot papers and indelible ink have been handed over to the Sungai Limau by-election manager.
He said due to greater efforts by both parties voter turnout was expected to be higher compared to the May 5 polls.
Commenting on young voters, Abdul Ghani said more than 50 per cent of the 27,222 voters were below 40 years old.
Although there were some improprieties on nomination day, Barisan Nasional (BN) and PAS were campaigning peacefully so far, he said.
“We have handed over the reports to the police for further action,” he said in reference to the use of loud speakers and speeches on that day. — Bernama
