IPOH, Oct 23 — The registration of returning flood evacuees in Manjung district is being carried out by the Welfare Services Department this morning.
Pantai Remis Fire and Rescue Station chief, Mohd Asri Mohd Ariff said as of this morning the flood waters had started to subside after the rain stopped yesterday.
“However, the water level in the Taman Pantai Wang, Taman Bintang and Padang Serai areas show a negligible drop and residents are not allowed to go home yet,” he told Bernama today.
He said 1,158 flood evacuees from 276 families were still at the relief centres, namely Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Batu, Taman Bintang hall, Kampung Tebuk Yan community hall and Sekolah Agama Rakyat Padang Serai this morning.
They are from Taman Bintang, Kampung Ujung Pasir, Kampung Pantai Tin, Taman Pantai Wang, Kampung Tebuk Yan, Parit Marikan and 13th Mile Segari.
According to the National Security Council’s flood portal, the number of evacuees in the Larut Matang district was unchanged at 69 since yesterday.
He said 55 victims were moved to the flood relief centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Batu Hampar and 14 people to the Padang Serai Dalam community hall.
Besides heavy rain, the high-tide phenomenon and change in the monsoon, have contributed to the floods in Perak. — Bernama
