PETALING JAYA, Oct 14 — As the results of Umno Youth and Wanita excos trickled in for tallying, the sons of former party leaders and a nephew of another were among those who garnered high votes.
Mohd Najib, the son of Felda chairman Tan Sri Isa Samad, and Mohd Hazali, the son of former Selangor mentri besar Tan Sri Abu Hassan Omar, together with Onn Hafiz Ghani — nephew of party vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein — were among the top gainers in the Umno Youth movement’s election held on Saturday.
They were among the 20 excos elected to work under re-elected chief Khairy Jamaluddin in strengthening the party and Barisan Nasional (BN).
Former Puteri chiefs — Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid and Datuk Noraini Ahmad — won the Wanita exco positions, clearing all doubts and allegations that Puteri members are not accepted in the Wanita fold.
For Wanita, 14 are said to have retained their seats in the exco line-up.
The 14 are Datuk Norhayati Onn, Datuk Armani Mahiruddin, Roslin Abdul Rahman, Datuk Norhayati Omar, Datuk Rusnah Kassim, Datuk Jamelah A. Bakar, Datuk Hasnah Salam, Norliza Abdul Rahim, Datuk Marlia Abdul Latiff, Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, Datuk Maznah Abd Hamid, Datuk Noriah Mahat, Rosni Zahari and Azihani Ali.
