GEORGE TOWN, Oct 8 — Thirty-eight bus drivers who were previously issued warrants of arrest and summonses for various traffic offences, were issued notices under Ops Warta at the Sungai Nibung Terminal, here early this morning.

Penang Public Order and Traffic Department operation and enforcement officer Asst Supt Ahmad Ezzely Razali said they were part of 82 bus drivers who were inspected at the terminal from 3pm yesterday to 1am today.

He said the express bus drivers, aged 25 to 55, were handed warning notices because they had unsettled summonses or warrants of arrest.

“We issued the warning notices to ensure drivers with summonses and warrants of arrest pay their penalties. Police will not hesitate to arrest them if they failed to do so.

“The joint inspection with the Land Public Transport Commission was also to ensure the buses used were in good conditions and safe for passengers,” he told reporters here today. — Bernama
