IPOH, Sept 20 — Four Vietnamese men made off with RM75,000 worth of Malaysian Ringgit, other currencies and several pieces of gold jewellery from a money changer in Ayer Tawar near Setiawan here yesterday.

“The owner discovered that the safe had been broken into when he arrived at the shop about 10am,” Ipoh police chief ACP Sum Chang Keong told reporters here today.

Three of the suspects were nabbed at a hotel in Ipoh twelve hours later and various safe breaking tools, RM3,000 in cash and RM40 in coins were seized, he said.

Initial investigation showed that the group was involved in eight safe break-ins around Ipoh and Kuala Lumpur, he said, adding that there may be more members at large.

In a separate incident at 11.55pm last night, Sum said there was an attempted break-in at another money changer at Jalan Sultan Idris Shah but the suspects, who were believed to part of the same gang, ran off empty handed due to the presence of police.  — Bernama
