BELURAN, Sept 20 — Four robbers seriously injured a man and attempted to rape his wife during a robbery at Kampung Rampik, Jalan Ulu Sapi, here, yesterday.
Beluran police chief DSP Sivanathan Velautham said the victim Jerry Damin, 32, and his wife Nani Marcella Nicholas, 28, were in the kitchen of their house when four masked robbers who were armed with sharp objects entered the house at about 8pm.
The robbers slashed Jerry when he tried to put up a fight while his wife was assaulted and one robber even tried to rape her but when the attempt of three other robbers to break into the victim's car had failed, they fled the scene with the loot.
According to Sivanathan, the couple were staying in an isolated oil palm small holding with no neighbours around.
He said both the victims were later sent to the Duchess Of Kent Hospital in Sandakan for treatment.
The robbers were said to have fled with cash, jewellery and a laptop computer worth about RM12,000 while their car was damaged. — Bernama
