BALIK PULAU, Sept 18 — An old man was killed while his wife was hurt in a robbery at their home in Jalan Tun Sardon, here today.
The victim Chin Len Wong, 83, was found by his son Chin Hui Ming, 49, covered in blood but still breathing at 9am before expiring several minutes later.
Barat Daya District Police chief Supt Mohd Hatta Mohd Zain said his wife Chang Yook Kee, 71, suffered a broken arm and was being treated at Penang Hospital.
“Chin is believed to have been hit on the head with a blunt object,” he told reporters here today.
He said the couple lived alone at the house which was surrounded by a durian orchard and 2.83 hectares of rubber smallholding.
His son, who worked in a factory, normally sent food to the couple in the morning.
“Similar cases to this have taken place where robbers targeted isolated homes. We have several pictures and photofits of suspects. There is a possibility the robbery involved them or others. Police are going all out to hunt them,” he said.
Mohd Hatta said police believe the robbery was committed by more than one person. Losses were yet to be ascertained. — Bernama
