GURUN, Sept 11 — Twenty-five families comprising 111 people have been evacuated from Kampung Sungai Bongkok here after the village was struck by floods following heavy rain yesterday.
Kedah Department of Civil Defence operations officer Muhammad Hilmi Yaakob said today the floodwaters rose from about 3 pm and reached a depth of almost a metre by 11pm.
The evacuation exercise was completed by about 5 am with the assistance of two officers and 25 men of the civil defence department in Kuala Muda and Yan, he said.
Muhammad Hilmi advised people in other flood-prone villages to be on the alert and contact the department or the security forces should floods strike their areas. — Bernama
