KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 — Eighty-five per cent of the 607 Umno branches in the Federal Territories (FT) have held their annual delegates’ meeting.
FT Umno liaison secretary Datuk Syed Ali Alhabshee said about 10 per cent more were expected to hold theirs anytime from now.
“Overall, things have gone on well. We are aware that the branch meetings must be convened by September 15,” he told Bernama, here.
It is understood that certain branches did not have enough quorum and need to hold their meeting again before they could elect the branch committee for the 2013/2014 session.
Syed Ali said some matters had arisen during the branch delegates’ meetings such as protests, complaints on not receiving an invitation to the meeting, name not in the list and so on, but he regarded these as normal as they had happened before.
Syed Ali said for the divisional election, all candidates contesting for posts were required to register their applications at Dewan Tun Razak, Putra World Trade Centre between 8am and 5pm on September 21.
“This will also involve all the divisions in FT except for Labuan,” he said, adding that the Federal Territories had 13 Umno divisions.
He said observers appointed for the branch and divisional meetings to ensure their smooth running would send their reports to the party headquarters after the meetings.
In the Umno election this October, the about 140,000 party grassroots members from 191 divisions throughout the country will choose the party president, deputy president, three vice-presidents and 25 Supreme Council members. — Bernama
