SHAH ALAM, Sept 9 — An army medical examiner with the rank of colonel was charged at a sessions court here today, with two counts of bribery involving RM700,000, committed almost two weeks ago.
Colonel Dr R. Kunaseegaran pleaded not guilty to recommending three companies to supply medicine and disposable medical tools to Hospital Angkatan Tentera Tuanku Mizan (HATTM) in Wangsa Maju.
The 50-year-old, who is a 23-year veteran in his career, heads the pathology laboratory at the hospital.
On the first charge, he was accused of soliciting RM700,000, via a short messaging services (SMS) from his cell phone to Abdul Razar Abdullah as inducement to recommend RAZ Medical Supplies Sdn Bhd, B & S Enterprise and Caremed Global Sdn Bhd to supply the items this year to HATTM.
Dr Kunaseegaran allegedly committed the offence at 11.58am on August 29.
On the second charge, he was said to have agreed to receive the money from Abdul Razar, who is RAZ Medical Supplies director, for that purpose at 5.15pm last Tuesday.
The offence allegedly occurred in front of the Empire Gallery in Subang Jaya near here.
Judge Slamat Yahya fixed bail at RM100,000 with one surety and fixed October 9 for mention of the case.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Azlin Sabtu of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission appeared for the prosecution while Dr Kunaseegaran was represented by Geethan Ram Vincent. — Bernama
