SEREMBAN, Sept 3 — Police have arrested four policemen and five other people to help in the investigation into the escape of a suspect from police custody at the Setul toll plaza on the Kajang-Seremban Expressway (Lekas) last Sunday.
Negri Sembilan CID chief ACP Hamdan Majid said today all of them were arrested yesterday.
He said the policemen, comprising constables and corporals, were aged between 24 and 50 and had been serving at the Nilai police headquarters. They were being held under remand.
The five civilians, comprising four women and a man aged between 21 and 30s, were arrested at a rented house in Taman College Heights, Sikamat, here, he said.
In the incident on Sunday, Kishminderjit Singh a/l Bahadar Singh, 39, was being taken from the Nilai police headquarters to the Simpang Renggam prison when the police van stopped at the toll plaza after the suspect asked to go to the toilet.
As the driver alighted and opened the door, a red Proton Satria car rammed into the rear of the van, and the suspect shoved the policeman guarding him into the van, jumped out of the vehicle and got into the car, still handcuffed, said Hamdan.
The car sped off and could not be found even by the pursuing policemen in the van, he said.
The suspect was arrested in Sikamat on July 4 for a drug-related offence and police obtained an order on August 30 to have him sent to the Simpang Renggam prison.
He said the suspect, also known as Taliban among drug traffickers, had eight criminal records and was wanted in four cases.
Hamdan appealed to anyone who had information on the suspect to contact any police station. — Bernama
