KUCHING, Sept 2 — Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Rohani Abdul Karim yesterday expressed her shock over a man who abandoned a four-year-old boy, believed to be his son, at the Kinta District Welfare office last Thursday.

She said the boy was being temporarily housed in Kuala Kangsar while awaiting an interim court order.

“We were shocked with the action of the man, believed to be the boy’s father. It was fortunate that most welfare offices have closed-circuit television cameras (CCTVs).

“However, the Welfare Department takes consolation in that the man was thoughtful enough to send his son to the correct place.”

She was speaking to reporters at the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Aidilfitri gathering and annual general assembly opening at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), here. — Bernama
