BESUT, Sept 2 — Three people, among them a married couple, were killed in a road accident at Km88 of Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kota Baharu near Kampung Gong Penaga, Jabi, here yesterday, police said.
Besut Police chief Supt Kamaruddin Mohd Zakaria said the couple were Jefri Othman, 38, an employee of a private firm, and his wife, Rubiah Ismail, 37, and Ng Piah Huat, 67.
He also said that the couple’s four-month-old son, Mohd Iqbal, was injured and had been admitted to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu.
The accident occurred at about 2.30 pm when the Kancil car driven by Jefri collided with a van driven by Ng, he said, adding that Rubiah died on the spot while Jefri and Ng died at the Besut Hospital.
Kamaruddin said firemen had to be summoned to remove the victims from the two vehicles.
It is learnt that Jefri and his family were returning from Kota Baharu after attending a company family day when the accident occurred, causing traffic congestion on the Kuala Terengganu-Kota Baharu trunk road for more than an hour. — Bernama
