IPOH, Sept 2 — The body of one of two drowning victims was found stuck to a fishing net, about two kilometres from the scene of the incident in Sungai Perak, Kampung Mandah, Manong, Kuala Kangsar, near here, yesterday.
The incident took place at 2.15pm this evening when the victims Mohammad Badrul Amin Muhd Nazri, 17 and his cousin Mohd Faiz Norisham, 14, were bathing in the river with six family members.
It is learnt that Mohd Faiz got into difficulties and shouted for help. Mohammad Badrul went to his aid but both were swept away by the strong current.
Kuala Kangsar district police chief, ACP Abdul Gaffar Muhamad said Mohammad Badrul’s body was found by several villagers from Kampung Chopeng Kanan, Parit about 4pm.
“A search and rescue operation was mounted by the police, Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defence Department and villagers who found the body stuck to a fishing net,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.
He said the search for the second victim was called off at 7.30pm and would be continued tomorrow at 8am. — Bernama
