KUANTAN, Sept 1 Sept — A total of 257 men aged between 16 to 30 years including a disabled one were detained in an operation against illegal racing in Jalan Kuantan-Gambang, here, this morning.
All those detained under the six-hour ‘Ops Rempit’, from 12am till 6am, are believed to gather en masse before planning a race every night of the week.
During the Ops there were some riders who left behind their motorcycles and fled to avoid being arrested.
Kuantan public order and traffic chief, Assistant Superintendent Ahmad Nazri Zainal, who led the operation, said two of those detained aged 16 and 21 years tested positive for drugs.
“The disabled man, aged 23, was detained for not possessing a licence and taking part in the illegal racing.
“Also 31 motorcycles were seized for having illegal modifications done to them, for expired road tax and other offences,” he said, here, today.
According to him, 109 summonses were issued for various traffic offences. — Bernama
