ALOR STAR, Aug 22 — A father of two was detained by the Kedah Customs Department in connection with the seizure of 20.4kg of syabu at the Shahab Perdana Express Bus Terminal here two days ago.
The drug, worth about RM3.89 million, was believed to have been smuggled in from Thailand.
The 43-year-old suspect was picked up by a team of enforcement officers about 10.30am while waiting for a bus to send the drug to Kuala Lumpur.
State Customs director Datuk Abd Aziz Abdul Latif said today the drug was found concealed in two packages in a suitcase fitted with wheels.
He said the suspect would be remanded until August 27 to facilitate investigations under section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction. — Bernama
