KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 4 — Strong winds and choppy sea in the waters of east Johor, Pahang and Sabah (Kudat and Sandakan) and Sulu are expected to persist until late this evening, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department today.

The department said in its website that the conditions could result in strong winds of up to 50km/h and choppy seas with waves reaching 3.5 metres high and dangerous to small boats.

Strong southwesterly winds with a speed of 50-60 km/h and waves reaching 4.5 metres high occurring in the waters off Phuket were expected to persist until Friday.

In addition, strong southwesterly winds with speeds of up to 40-50 km/h and waves of up to 3.5 metres high were expected in the waters of Condore, Reef North, Layang-Layang and Palawan.

The strong wind and choppy sea condition is dangerous for shipping and beach activities including fishing, ferry service, small boats and sea recreation and sports. — Bernama
