BUTTERWORTH, Aug 2 — Penang police expect to solve at least 17 snatch theft and robbery cases reported in Mak Mandin and Teluk Air Tawar here following the arrest of a 23-year-old man.

Penang CID head SAC Mazlan Kesah told reporters last night that the suspect was detained last July 24 at a house in Telur Air Tawar following a tip-off.

He said police searched the house and found, among others, wallets containing personal documents, including identity cards, belonging to a few women.

In all, police found 17 identity cards, believed to belong to his snatch theft victims, Mazlan said.

He said the suspect targeted women motorcyclists and pedestrians who were travelling alone.

“With the arrest of the suspect, police will be able to solve 17 snatch theft and robbery cases reported in the Butterworth area,” he added.

He said the suspect, who has two young children, would be in remand until August 7 to facilitate police investigation. — Bernama
