KUALA TERENGGANU, July 8 — PAS will also announce its candidate for the Kuala Besut state by-election tomorrow, polling for which is on July 24.
Its by-election director, Satiful Bahri Mamat, said today the party’s central committee would select the candidate tonight in Kuala Lumpur from a list submitted by Terengganu PAS.
The candidate would be announced by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang tomorrow in Kampung Nail, Kuala Besut, he told Bernama.
Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Barisan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is scheduled to announce the BN candidate tomorrow.
Nomination for the by-election is on July 12.
The by-election was called following the death of BN assemblyman Dr A. Rahman Mokhtar of lung cancer on June 26.
He had won the seat with a 2,434-vote majority by beating Napisah Ismail of PAS in the general election on May 5.
Kuala Besut has 17,683 voters. — Bernama
