KUALA LUMPUR, July 1 — The Election Commission will meet this Friday to set the date for the upcoming Kuala Besut by-election, national news agency Bernama reported today.
The seat fell vacant following the death of the assemblyman, Dr A. Rahman Mokhtar, 55, due to lung cancer on June 26.
EC secretary Datuk Kamaruddin Mohamed Baria confirmed today that notice for the vacancy was received from the Speaker of the Terengganu assembly on June 27.
Kamaruddin said the announcement of the nomination and polling dates will be made following the meeting on Friday.
