FRASER’S HILL, June 24 — The Tourism and Culture Ministry is mulling a proposal to build a cable car from Raub to Fraser’s Hill which would allow tourists to enjoy the panoramic view at the tourist destination.
Its minister, Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz, said the ministry would review the suggestion from Raub Umno division chief Datuk Shahiruddin Ab Moin who wanted the cable cars to be used to attract more people to Raub and Fraser’s Hill.
“I take this seriously and will find a way to make it a reality, so I will meet the prime minister for discussions,” he told reporters after presenting prizes to winners of the Fraser’s Hill Bird Spotting Contest 2013 here yesterday.
He said the facility would also open up economic opportunities to residents in Raub and Fraser’s Hill by taking part in the hotel and transport activities.
He said the cable cars would also increase demand for accommodation and need for more hotels in Raub.
“Hotels cannot be built on Fraser’s Hill as we don’t want excessive development there, so it must be done in Raub and Raub residents can diversify their economic activities by providing transport and accommodation facilities for tourists,” he added. — Bernama
