KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 15 — Glamping destinations in Selangor continue to be popular, emerging as a tourism product with strong potential to attract both domestic and international visitors.
Tourism Selangor Corporate Communications Manager Ahmad Nazri Tashriq Rahmat said the industry offers a unique holiday experience that combines the beauty of nature with modern, hotel-standard facilities.
“Some people enjoy camping but prefer to do so in comfort. Glamping offers camping-style accommodation with facilities similar to those found in hotel rooms, such as air conditioning and comfortable beds,” he told Bernama during the Surprising Selangor: Let’s Glamping - Outdoor Media Gathering programme at The Nyaman Place in Hulu Langat recently.
He said the strategic location of these destinations, close to Kuala Lumpur, also played an important role in making Selangor easily accessible to visitors, particularly city dwellers.
According to him, the industry has received an encouraging response, especially during weekends and school holidays, with Hulu Langat and Hulu Selangor, particularly Kuala Kubu Bharu and Batang Kali, emerging as the main hotspots for glamping accommodation.
Apart from offering visitors a unique experience, he said the development of glamping sites had also generated significant economic spin-offs for villagers and local communities.
“Typically, a glamping site will offer various activities, such as all-terrain vehicle (ATV) rides, which are managed by villagers in the surrounding areas. Therefore, the economic benefits are not limited to private landowners but extend to the entire community,” he said.
To support the industry, Ahmad Nazri said Tourism Selangor was working closely with local authorities to coordinate licensing data and tighten compliance with safety guidelines and measures to ensure visitors’ comfort.
He said that, given Selangor’s strong tourism performance, with the state topping the national rankings after recording 36.4 million domestic visitors last year, efforts to strengthen nature-based tourism products were expected to further drive the state’s tourism sector to greater heights.
Meanwhile, The Nyaman Place owner Mohamad Syafiq Azim Shaheen said the accommodation facility began operations a year ago and had consistently received an encouraging response from various segments of society, including tourists from Singapore and Thailand.
He said the success of attracting nearly 25,460 visitors during that period was driven by its distinctive accommodation concept, which prioritises guest comfort, including providing private bathrooms for every room.
He said that besides being a popular choice for family holidays, glamping destinations such as his also attracted corporate organisations and government agencies for team-building programmes, supported by comfortable multipurpose halls and swimming pools.
Mohamad Syafiq Azim said visitors could also enjoy various recreational activities offered in the surrounding area, including fishing and jungle trekking.
“The development of nature-inspired luxury homestays also indirectly contributes to the sustainable enhancement of the rural tourism landscape,” he said, expressing hope that closer cooperation among private operators, local authorities and local communities would continue to be strengthened to ensure the industry remains safe and a preferred choice among tourists. — Bernama
