PETALING JAYA, Oct 14 — Tamco Switchgear (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, together with Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and partner organisations, has launched a mangrove conservation drive in Kampung Sijangkang, Telok Panglima Garang.

The Tamco CSR 2026 Mangrove Planting Programme, themed “Plant Today, Protect Tomorrow”, saw 190 participants from Tamco, UiTM and agencies including TNC, Majlis Perbandaran Kuala Langat (MPKL), IBSD UiTM and IIESM.

A total of 200 Rhizophora seedlings — locally known as bakau — were planted at Taman Rekreasi Paya Bakau, part of efforts to restore and conserve the coastal ecosystem.

Beyond tree planting, the initiative gave participants hands on lessons in mangrove conservation, highlighting the forests’ role in protecting shorelines, supporting biodiversity and strengthening environmental resilience.

Tamco said the programme reflects its commitment to sustainability through practical action.

“Sustainability is not just about setting policies and targets, but about taking meaningful action. Through this initiative, we hope to encourage greater environmental awareness and demonstrate how small actions, when carried out together, can create a lasting impact,” the company noted.

The newly planted mangroves will be monitored, with a target survival rate of 80 per cent, to ensure long term benefits.

The event also underscored the value of collaboration between industry, academia, government and environmental groups in driving conservation and inspiring community participation.

The company said it will continue to encourage environmental responsibility and build partnerships that contribute to a more sustainable future.
