KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 8 — MG’s return to the Malaysian market is progressing rather rapidly at the moment. After establishing its online presence recently, it seemed that the brand who is now owned by SAIC Motor has now shifted its attention to physical showroom by appointing its first dealer, Menang Nusantara Holdings (MNH).

This was revealed by the MNH’s parent company, MeGroup through a media release that was filed to the Singapore Exchange (SGX). Even though it is an SGX-listed company, MeGroup is still a Malaysian outfit that also dabbles in automotive components manufacturing in addition to dealerships.

The announcement revealed that MNH will establish its MG showroom at Bandar Bukit Raja in Klang. Before this, the showroom was used by the company as a Hyundai 3S facility from 2019 until the end of last month.

Even though the company will convert the building into an MG showroom, it will continue to be a 3S facility. Hence, customers will not only be able to purchase MG vehicles but also service them there as well.

Interestingly enough, MeGroup said that it expects the new MG showroom in Bukit Raja will be ready by February 28. Aside from MG, it also has six other brands under its portfolio including Proton, Honda, Ford, Mazda, Mitsubishi, and Peugeot through a total of 11 outlets.

SAIC has not yet revealed the MG vehicle lineup for Malaysia

Meanwhile, SAIC still has not yet revealed the list of MG vehicles that will be launched in Malaysia. That being said, we believe the company did provide several hints on the MG Malaysia’s website.

As noted in our previous report, one of the MG vehicles that we expect to be released in our market is the sleek Cyberster 2-seater convertible. However, that model might be launched at a later time while MG’s debut in our market will likely happen with a more mainstream model.

By that, we mean the MG4 Electric. After all, this particular EV has been spotted doing road tests in Malaysia before and has been released in Indonesia as well as Thailand. Alternatively, there is also the MG ZS EV. However, it is already an ageing model and might be more suitable for the entry-level market. — SoyaCincau
