KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 — Tesla Malaysia is officially launching next week and it looks like they have revealed the official pricing for the Tesla Model Y for our local market. As spotted by Paultan, the Tesla configurator for Malaysia has gone online and the fully electric Model Y SUV starts from an impressive RM199,000! Priced from less than RM200,000 in Malaysia, not only is it cheaper than Singapore and Thailand but Tesla has just made every other EVs in our market look so expensive.
Tesla Model Y Malaysia pricing
The Tesla Model Y comes in a total of 3 versions in Malaysia which starts from a rear-wheel-drive model, and two dual-motor all-wheel-drive variants. Here’s the official pricing in Malaysia:
• Rear Wheel Drive – RM199,000
• All-Wheel Drive Long Range – RM246,000
• All-Wheel Drive Performance – RM288,000
The incoming Tesla models are fully imported and they currently enjoy EV incentives such as import and excise duty exemptions and free road tax until the end of 2025. The road tax formula for EVs is currently being looked into and Transport Minister Anthony Loke recently said that the road tax for EVs will be cheaper than internal combustion engine vehicles.
Tesla Model Y colours and options
The Model Y comes in 5 colours – Pearl White, Solid Black, Midnight Silver Metallic, Deep Blue and Red. Only Pearl White option comes with no extra cost as the other four colours require an extra RM5,000 top-up.
From the configurator, there are other extra upgrades and options available for an extra fee. Upgrading from 19″ Gemini to 20″ Induction Wheels costs RM10,000, and you can change the interior from Black to White for an extra RM5,000.

• Full Self-Driving Capability – RM32,000
Estimated early 2024 delivery
Bookings are now available online with a non-refundable RM1,000 payment via card. All-in, the base rear-wheel-drive Model Y in Pearl White costs RM205,700 which includes delivery, number plate and order fee. Tax and other fees are not included. On a 5-year loan, it costs an estimated RM3,420 per month with a RM20,400 downpayment.
However, take note that you would probably need to wait at least 6 months for your new EV as Tesla Malaysia has listed an estimated delivery timeline of early 2024.
Tesla Model Y key specs and figures
In case you missed it, the Tesla Model Y is the world’s best-selling car for Q1 2023, beating the likes of the Toyota Corolla. In terms of specs, the base Model Y with a single motor powering the rear wheels that push 255kW (347hp) and 420Nm of torque. It can do 0-100km/h in 6.9 seconds with a top speed of 217km/h. Equipped with a 57.5kWh battery, the RWD Model Y has a rated range of 430km on the WLTP cycle.
For more range and performance, you can top up another RM47,000 to step up to the All-Wheel-Drive Long Range Model Y which costs RM246,800. The dual-motor set-up pushes 378kW (514hp) and 493Nm of torque, capable of doing 0-100km/h in just 5.0 seconds. The battery is bigger too at 75kWh and it gets a rated range of 533km (WLTP). Top-speed remains unchanged at 217km/h.
The range-topping Tesla Model Y Performance costs an extra RM46,000 on top of the AWD Long Range model. For RM288,000, you get higher power output at 393kW (534hp) and 660Nm of torque. This also makes its 0-100km/h acceleration significantly quicker at 3.7s and it gets a higher top speed of 250km/h. In terms of range, it gets a slight dip to 514km, which is only 19km less than the Long Range version.
Tesla Superchargers in Malaysia
The thing about Tesla coming to Malaysia isn’t just about the EV but also its network of Superchargers. Tesla Malaysia’s website has also listed 10 upcoming Supercharger locations which cover not just the Klang Valley but also Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Perak and Pulau Pinang. As shared by Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Zafrul Aziz, Tesla is required to install at least 50 Superchargers in Malaysia within 3 years. These Superchargers can provide up to 270km of driving range with just a quite 15-minute charge.
