KUALA LUMPUR, July 13 — The Subang Jaya Community Ambulance is in dire need of donations and sponsorship in order to continue their free emergency services.

The non-profit organisation which has been attending to medical emergencies in the community for the past five years has just enough funds to continue operating for another two months, according to portal SJ Echo.

The free service was initially set up by the Subang Jaya Bomba Emergency Assistance Community, also known as SJ Beacon.

According to SJ Beacon’s president TH Teoh, the cost in maintaining and equipping the ambulance and financing its essential operational expenses have become more challenging to cover.

“If we cannot raise sufficient funds in this period (two months) to top up the depleting amount, we will have no other choice but to permanently shut down the service.

“Our community ambulance service plays a critical role in providing immediate medical assistance to those in need.

“Over the years, our dedicated team of paramedics and medical professionals has responded to countless emergencies, saving lives and ensuring the well-being of our fellow community members,” Teoh said.

He added that the cost of operating the community ambulance had also spiked in recent years due to the increased numbers of cases they’ve been receiving.

The service now requires almost RM25,000 monthly to run.

“Back in 2020, we responded to 557 medical emergency cases in Subang Jaya alone. This went up to 1,008 in 2021 and 1,026 in 2022,” he said.

As quality emergency medical services are a fundamental right for everyone in the community, SJ Beacon will launch a fundraising campaign for their community ambulance by reaching out to community leaders, local businesses and individuals.

“Your support and financial contribution can make a significant difference in ensuring the continuity of our community ambulance service.

"By donating to our cause, you will be directly contributing to the well-being of our community and saving lives during critical moments of need,” he said.

Amongst the ways the public can contribute to the NGO includes through one-time donation, monthly donation, corporate contribution or also by being a volunteer.
