KUALA LUMPUR, May 3 — A cockroach has made global news after it was seen waltzing in on the Met Gala 2023 red carpet in New York yesterday.
The grand entrance made by the uninvited guest was caught on video by photographers and reporters who were there to cover fashion’s biggest night.
The video, which shows the critter being cheered on as it darted across the floor while a photographer snapped photos of it, has since gone viral.

“How much boredom one must be enduring to be so excited about a cockroach running through a carpet?” asked a Twitter user.
“Who’s it wearing?” asked another.
“Does he get a gift bag too?” asked a third.
Sadly, the little cockroach, which was the world’s most famous roach for a fleeting moment met with an untimely end on the very same night.
As a ‘tribute’, Variety later shared a death notice, informing the audience that it had indeed died.
“It is with deep sadness that we must report the #MetGala cockroach was stepped on. #RIP”
