Light pillars are an atmospheric optical phenomenon that happens when ice crystals falling from the air, reflect light sources from the sun or street lights from the ground.
They usually form in cold weather, and in some cases, the ice crystals can be suspended near the ground according to the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO).
The phenomenon was last seen in Malaysia on January 2023 at coastal areas near Kunak, Sabah at 8pm as reported by The Daily Express.
