KUALA LUMPUR, June 22 — The Taiping Municipal Council (MPT) mobilised three lorries along with a tractor and a bulldozer to clean up a trash-filled home in Pokok Assam, Perak.

MPT, in a Facebook post, said that Monday’s clean up operation involved staff cleaning up the bulk of the garbage surrounding the home with the help of their machinery.

According to the post, the home located in Taman Tupai Mas, belonged to an elderly man who lived alone.

The clean-up operation came about after photos of the house surrounded by trash circulated on social media.

The operation, which began at 8.30am, was completed within two hours.

“MPT would like to remind the public not to store trash even though it is within the confinement of your home.

“Even though the pile of controlled solid waste which doesn’t have MPT’s approval is stored within your home grounds, it can still be recognised as an offense in terms of nuisance.

“Actions will be taken upon individuals who were caught doing this on purpose under Section 75 (1) and (2) of the Local Government Act (Act 171) where if convicted, the person can be fined not more than RM1,000 or sentenced to prison no less than six month or both,” MPT wrote on their Facebook.

MPT’s Facebook post received praise from local social media users.

“Well done MPT, keep it up,” commented Alex Koi.

“Majlis Perbandaran Taiping is the best,” user Dhevan Murthy Taiping.

“Thank you MPT,” commented Chuah Tiong Soon.
