KUALA LUMPUR, June 8 – Bernie Quah, the founder of Sketch Post Studio, is a joy to have at any presentation or conference. You see, she will sketch the presentation in real time and make a quirky infographic of the whole thing complete with quirky cartoons and speech bubbles.

Yes, it sure beats the dull stacks of notes most presenters hand out to conference participants.

Quah has two companies; one in Singapore and the other in Malaysia. Both are under the Sketch Post Studio umbrella where Quah is not just the founder but manager, administrator, artist, press liaison, accountant, secretary and marketing executive. Yes, she is a one-woman show.

Here’s a look at what tools and equipment she needs to do what she does:

1. “I got a new iMac recently so that I can check emails and work on a larger screen. I used to use a Dell computer but that is more for architectural work.”

2. “This Wacom Cintiq tablet is used for drawing illustrations. I can connect it to my scanner/printer and computer.”

3. “I use my sketchbook to draw drafts then I will scan it into my tablet and trace again.”

4. “The scanner/printer is for me to scan the sketches into my computer and allows me to add more details to it. I also print out previous sketches that have comments from clients on them.”

5. “I like to make my own postcards. Why buy when I can draw them myself? These are two of my favourites and I made them in 2011. They are based on what I see during that time.”

6. “My mom put this plant near the computer so that it can reduce radioactive rays.”

7. “I have a set of markers with colours here. I’ve had them for nine months now. They are from a German brand called Neuland. These are for fast sketches and they are used for foam based boards. They are also refillable. I’ve also got a whiteboard set but I hardly use those.”

8. “This is merchandise I have. I drew the sketches and gave them to my client. When they told me they made tumblers out of my sketches, I was wondering why would they make a Tumblr page out of three sketches I gave them. Finally, I understood what they meant.”

9. “I made this company stamp for fun.”

10. “I try to have a bottle of water at all times so that I don’t forget to drink water.”

11.  “I use my iPad for presentations. I got it the same time I bought my iMac and Macbook Pro recently.”

12. “My mom put this poem of encouragement on the table. It’s been there so long, I can’t remember when my mom put it there!”

13. “I put my markers in this camera bag. The last time you saw me, I had a toiletries bag for my markers. I left that one in Singapore.”
