BANGKOK, Sept 30 — Thai Airways International has cancelled another 37 domestic and international flights through Thursday as it works to clear a major baggage backlog at Suvarnabhumi airport.

The latest cancellations, announced on the airline’s official Facebook page on Tuesday evening, came hours after chief executive Chai Eamsiri apologised to passengers following mounting complaints over days-long baggage delays, the Bangkok Post reported.

Several passengers responding to the announcement expressed concern that their flights could also be affected, while others sought updates on missing luggage.

A group of Thai passengers arriving from Chengdu, China, told the Bangkok Post that people waiting for their baggage at the airport “looked like zombies”, although the group received their luggage after about 40 minutes.

The airline has now cancelled 59 flights since flooding began in Bangkok on September 26, according to announcements on its social-media page, while numerous other services have been delayed.

Flooding in Bangkok and surrounding areas over the weekend disrupted baggage handling, with about 5,600 pieces of luggage affected after hundreds of employees were unable to get to work at Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports.

The additional cancellations include five international services on Tuesday, including flights to Dhaka, Seoul, Bengaluru, Sapporo and New Delhi.

On Wednesday, Thai Airways cancelled seven domestic flights to Phuket, Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen, Ubon Ratchathani and Udon Thani.

It also cancelled 21 international services on Wednesday, including flights to Munich, Brussels, Copenhagen, Zurich, Amsterdam, London, Hong Kong, Frankfurt, Taipei, Osaka, Seoul, Tokyo, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, New Delhi, Mumbai, Sydney and Manila.

On Thursday, four services to Paris, Brussels, Milan and Stockholm were cancelled.

The airline has not provided a timetable for when normal operations will resume as it continues efforts to clear the baggage backlog.
