LONDON, Sept 6 — A British-Nigerian influencer died after a penis enlargement procedure in Thailand allegedly triggered a fatal pulmonary embolism, according to a UK coroner’s report cited by the New York Post.

Igho “Tiny” Ubiribo, 43, was on holiday in Bangkok with his wife, Daniella Simba Allen, when he underwent the cosmetic procedure on March 5.

Details of his death only came to light yesterday, months after the procedure, with the New York Post reporting that a postmortem later linked the embolism to substances used in the injection.

Ubiribo had reportedly received injections containing hyaluronic acid and the local anaesthetic lidocaine.

Soon afterwards, while he and his wife were having a massage, he began complaining of chest pain and repeatedly lost consciousness, according to the report.

He was taken to Sukhumvit Hospital, where doctors found he was struggling to respond coherently to questions.

His condition rapidly deteriorated and he died from a pulmonary embolism before medical staff could carry out a CT scan to identify the cause.

Doctors reportedly performed CPR for more than 100 minutes in an attempt to save him.

A postmortem carried out under the authority of a UK coroner later concluded that the hyaluronic acid and lidocaine used during the procedure had caused the embolism, the New York Post reported, citing TMZ.

Hyaluronic acid fillers can be used in cosmetic procedures, including injections intended to temporarily increase penile girth. The effects typically last for several months and treatments can cost thousands of dollars.

Ubiribo had built a sizeable following online, with about 185,000 followers on Instagram, where he documented a lavish lifestyle.

According to the New York Post, he owned a US$1.1 million home in Los Angeles’ Crenshaw neighbourhood as well as a London apartment valued at about US$600,000.

He married Allen in an elaborate ceremony in Zimbabwe in 2022.

Following his death, Ubiribo was buried in London in a gold coffin reportedly costing more than US$700,000.
