EU activates satellite surveillance system to aid Nepal flood recovery

BRUSSELS, Aug 27 — The EU said yesterday it had activated its satellite surveillance system to help recovery efforts after the floods in Nepal, and was ready to provide more help.
“Copernicus has been activated to help map the affected areas in Nepal and support the response on the ground,” EU chief Ursula von der Leyen wrote online.
“We stand ready to mobilise further European assistance.”
Massive flooding near the border with Tibet killed at least 19 people in Nepal yesterday, with hundreds of tourists still out of contact hours after the disaster hit. — AFP
