JAKARTA, Aug 10 — Authorities have warned of possible coastal flooding in six areas of Bali from August 11 to 17 as a full moon phenomenon is expected to trigger a rise in maximum sea levels around the island.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Region III chief Cahyo Nugroho said the phenomenon is linked to the moon reaching perigee, its closest point to Earth, on August 10, followed by a new moon on August 13.

“Coastal flooding could potentially affect loading and unloading activities at ports, activities in coastal settlements, as well as salt farming and inland fisheries,” he said, according to Antara News Agency on Monday.

Cahyo said the six areas are the southern coasts of Jembrana and Tabanan regencies, the coasts of Badung, Gianyar and Denpasar, and the southern coast of Klungkung Regency. The timing and severity of peak tides vary by location, day, and hour. — Bernama
