TOKYO, July 19 — More than 130 people have developed symptoms of food poisoning in two separate incidents in central and eastern Japan in recent days, according to local media reports, reported Xinhua.

In one incident, 74 people experienced diarrhoea, vomiting and other symptoms after eating a traditional Japanese set meal at a hotel in Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture, Kyodo News reported yesterday.

Nine of the affected diners were hospitalised.

Local health authorities determined the incident to be a case of food poisoning and ordered the suspension of operations at the hotel’s Japanese cuisine kitchen, the report said.

In a separate incident, 64 people, including 59 children aged between one and six and five staff members at a kindergarten in Hachioji, western Tokyo, developed symptoms such as diarrhoea and abdominal pain, TBS Television reported Friday.

One child was hospitalised.
