NEW DELHI, May 12 — An Abu Dhabi-bound Etihad Airways flight with 280 passengers onboard was grounded today after a fire broke out on the aircraft’s left wing ahead of take-off at an airport in the southern Indian city of Chennai, according to multiple local media reports, Xinhua reported.

All passengers were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported.

Reports quoted local officials as saying the pilots noticed the fire while the aircraft was preparing for departure, prompting an immediate suspension of flight operations and the deployment of fire and emergency teams.

The firefighters immediately brought the blaze under control, following which the flight was cancelled. — Bernama-Xinhua
