Taiwan reports first major post-election Chinese military activity

TAIPEI, Jan 17 — Taiwan’s defence ministry said it had detected 18 Chinese air force planes operating around Taiwan this evening and carrying out "joint combat readiness patrols” with Chinese warships.

It was the first time since elections in Taiwan on Saturday that its defence ministry has reported large-scale Chinese military activities nearby it. — Reuters
