SINGAPORE, May 8 — A 26-year-old man who allegedly jumped onto the hood of a private-hire car in the early hours of Saturday morning was charged in court yesterday.
Chee Chu Siong faces one count of committing a rash act at about 3am on May 5.
He is said to have run towards a moving car outside St James Power Station, a popular nightspot located at 3 Sentosa Gateway, before jumping on the vehicle when it stopped.
He was subsequently arrested by the police when they were alerted to the incident.
A viral dashcam video of the incident was posted on Facebook on Saturday afternoon by the private-hire driver’s son.
It showed a man clad in a black shirt, jeans and a black cap running towards the car as others walked past on the side of the road.
The man then leapt onto the hood, stomped on the windscreen, and clambered onto the top of the car.
The victim’s son said in the Facebook post that his father is a 72-year-old Grab driver who drove off after the incident to "prevent confrontation”.
"My dad has done nothing to provoke you. You jumped on his car and your friend even shouted: ‘We apologised already, what more do you want?’,” he added.
Chee was offered S$5,000 (RM14,784) bail and will next appear in court on May 24.
If convicted of committing a rash act, he could be jailed up to six months and/or fined up to S$2,500. — TODAY
