Singaporeans arrested for robbing bird shop on first day of Chinese New Year

SINGAPORE, Feb 19 — Two men, aged 27 and 28, have been arrested for breaking into a bird food and supplies shop and stealing two birds on Friday, the first day of Chinese New Year.

In a media release on Saturday, the police said on Friday, they had received a report at 8.50am that a shop had been broken into at Block 124 Bukit Merah Lane.

Two birds valued at about S$400 (RM1,186.24) were also reported missing.

Through extensive ground enquiries and footage from police cameras, the officers from Clementi Police Division were able to establish the identities of the suspect and arrested them within 11 hours of the report.

Police investigations are ongoing.

Anyone convicted for housebreaking and theft faces a jail term of between two and 14 years. — TODAY
