SINGAPORE, May 29 — The Soon Huat Bak Kut Teh outlet at Simpang Bedok will be closed for two weeks starting tomorrow after it was found to have committed several health violations.

According to a suspension notice on the National Environment Agency’s (NEA) website today, the food shop has accumulated 14 demerit points over a 12-month period for failing to keep its premises clean and for preparing food on the floor.

The bak kut teh restaurant was also fined S$1,000 (RM3,083.29) by the NEA. It will be closed till June 12.

NEA regulations state that any food licensee who accumulates 12 or more demerit points in a 12-month period may have its licence suspended for two or four weeks, or revoked.

All food handlers working in the suspended premises would also be required to attend and pass the Basic Food Hygiene Course again, before they can resume work.

"NEA takes a serious view of these offences and would like to remind food operators to observe good food and personal hygiene practices at all times, and to engage only registered food handlers,” the agency said.

Soon Huat Bak Kut Teh has five outlets around Singapore.

None of its other outlets are affected by this suspension. — TODAY
