SINGAPORE, Feb 14 — The ubiquitous paper road tax discs, a compulsory feature in vehicles here for decades, will be phased out tomorrow (Feb 15) .
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) will stop issuing the discs and motorists will no longer be required to display them.
Motorists renewing their road tax from tomorrow will only get a payment notice, and no paper road tax disc will be issued, said the LTA, which first announced the move in August last year. They can also check and print proof of the validity of their road tax, as well as receive road tax payment reminders, at the One.Motoring website.
Enforcement officers will check the validity of the road tax electronically.
The LTA has reminded motorists to ensure that their original motor insurance certificate is readily available in their vehicles at all times.
Those driving into Malaysia are advised to carry printed proof of the validity of their road tax in their vehicles. Failure to pay road tax is an offence that carries a S$2,000 (RM6,274) fine, the LTA noted. — TODAY
