Malay Mail

SINGAPORE, Oct 11 — About 300 residents in Jurong West were evacuated from their homes after a coffee shop and wet market were "completely engulfed in flames” this morning, leaving one elderly woman in hospital.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the fire, which happened at Block 493, Jurong West Street 41, about 2.45am today.

The fire was put out by 4.15am, it added, and residents are now being allowed to return to their homes.

The fire had caused the roof of the wet market to collapse. The exterior side wall of the coffee shop in the neighbouring Block 494 was damaged by the blaze as well.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. — TODAY
