SINGAPORE, Aug 23 — Popular Taiwanese milk tea Chun Cui He, which flew off the shelves when it was first launched at 7-Eleven stores in July, has now been recalled by the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) after a non-permitted ingredient was found.
The drink contained the ingredient L-theanine, an organic compound that is found in certain plants, said the AVA in a statement today.
Although there is "no food safety risk” associated with the recalled products, the AVA has advised consumers to seek medical advice if they have any health concerns.
L-theanine is currently not on the list of permitted food additive under the Food Regulations of Singapore, the statement added.
Chun Cui He was priced at S$2.80 (RM8.35) per bottle — with two flavours, Latte and Milk Tea — when it first came to Singapore.
Demand was so high that Singaporeans set up Facebook groups dedicated to stock updates on the drink. — TODAY
