COLOMBO, May 21 — The Sri Lankan air force has mobilised trucks and helicopters to rescue residents from the flooded capital.

Days of torrential rains have forced nearly 200,000 Colombo residents from their homes... Scores of others have died in landslides across the country.

Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena is pledging support.

“The government has given priority to provide the maximum amount of relief to people who are affected by the current bad weather conditions,” he said.
